What if we lived in plastic houses?
Living in plastic houses made from waste-products may sound like a sci-fi vision of the future. But it's probably less than a decade away from reality. A UC Engineering team has created a new building material comprised of used plastics and the sawdust of radiata pine. And they're poised to take the product to market. Sound like another outstanding Canterbury University innovation? Professor Shusheng Pang thinks so.
What if we accept robots as our equals?
Robots are moving into our homes, offices and social spaces. They are doing things that we do - often faster and with greater precision. Yet, to most of us, they still remain machines that perform a function. Maybe we'd think differently if they looked more like us? Maybe we'd change our perception if they behaved like us and thought like us, too? What then? Would we accept them as our equals? UC's Dr Christoph Bartneck thinks so.
